Curriculum
Carolina Mountain Montessori (CMM) offers an authentic Montessori curriculum and classroom, with specialized Montessori materials and a "discovery" learning approach. Our "work" is focussed on practical life, sensory experiences, math, and language arts. In addition to the traditional Montessori curriculum, CMM integrates instruction in science, Spanish, art, music, geography and cultural studies. We foster and foment each child's innate love of learning, in a beautiful environment, within a loving community.

History
Founder, Cathy Norman, began Carolina Mountain Montessori in 1985. She continues to teach with a passion for academics, nature and the arts. She constantly enriches the classroom environment by introducing new materials and projects for each new topic of study.

Cathy knew she wanted to work with children from a young age, which lead her to a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Appalachian State University. She went on to earn a double Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling and School Psychology.

Cathy's first child was born with Down's Syndrome, which began her journey to Montessori. Learning that Maria Montessori started Montessori for mentally disabled children, Cathy was intrigued. She pursued and earned a Preprimary Certificate from the Center for Montessori Teacher Education in Greensboro, NC. She has loved and enjoyed working with children ever since, and has succeeded in creating an atmosphere where they can learn together or individually, at their own pace.
